Noise pollution awareness for drivers

Awareness for drivers on responsible horn use and noise pollution.

We work with drivers across Bangladesh to reduce the noise that vehicles add to everyday life. The programme centres on how the horn is used: when it genuinely helps, when it adds nothing but noise, and how habits behind the wheel shape the streets everyone shares. We treat this as a practical matter rather than a moral one, because change on the road comes from small decisions repeated many times a day.

In practice we hold short awareness sessions where drivers already gather, including bus and truck terminals, stands, garages and workshops, and the offices of transport workers' associations. Our volunteers speak directly with drivers and helpers, share simple printed material in Bangla, and put up posters near schools, hospitals and residential streets where quiet matters most. We also encourage vehicle owners and operators to remove hydraulic and other unlawfully loud horns, and we support drivers who are willing to set an example among their peers.

Noise is one of the least discussed forms of pollution in the country, yet people live with it constantly. Prolonged exposure damages hearing, disturbs sleep and concentration, and raises stress. Students struggle to study and patients struggle to rest. In urban areas traffic is a major source, and a large share of it is avoidable.

Drivers, helpers, transport workers' and owners' associations, schools and interested volunteers are all welcome to take part. Anyone who would like a session arranged in their own area is welcome to contact us.
